課程概述 |
The island of Bali boasts rich traditions of music and dance. The most representative musical form is gamelan. Gamelan consists of different kinds of percussive instruments made up of metal keys and gongs. Its status equals that of an orchestra in Western classical music. Gamelan has many varieties and regional differences. This course will center on the two kinds of gamelan that NTU owns, namely gamelan angklung and gamelan kebyar.
The course is designed for students who have taken gamelan classes before. It will challenge them to learn more technically demanding pieces that are canonic in Balinese gamelan repertoire.
This is a month-long intensive course, starting on October 31 and ending on December 2. There will be 3 evening class meetings each week, 3 hours per meeting. The last week of class will be nightly intensive practice, followed by two concerts on December 2 and 3. Each student needs to submit a final essay after the concerts.
